Position Title: 0.2 French Teacher (Grade 7)

Galvin Middle School seeks a highly qualified MA-certified French teacher who has native or near-native fluency and an interest in growing our French programming at the middle school level. Near-native speakers should have experience studying, working and/or teaching abroad. Prospective candidates must have not only the knowledge, but also the capacity to design and implement effective, student-centered middle school world language curriculum units. The position consists of teaching one seventh grade French class and working with the departmental/grade-specific teams. Other important duties include helping to plan and chaperone the 7th grade cultural trip to Montreal as well as administering The National French Contest/Le Grand Concours.
We are seeking dynamic professionals who will bring inclusive, differentiated, and purposeful standards-based instruction to the world language classroom. Applicants must be effective communicators who can articulate what they believe to be the essential ingredients of quality world language instruction. They must be able to deliver lessons in the target language that meet the academic and social-emotional needs of all learners. Successful applicants will be self-starters, skilled at implementing instructional units and Integrated Performance Assessments informed by the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines and 2017 NCSSFL-ACTFL Can-Do Statements, 21st Century Skills, Understanding By Design (UbD), and the essential design elements of Project-Based Learning (PBL). Candidates must be comfortable using and implementing a variety of technologies, such as a mobile Chrome book language laboratory and Google Classroom, into their practice. Experience with content-based instruction, TPR/S, CI, universal design for learning, and student travel is a plus.
Current Massachusetts DESE certification in French (5-12). Dual certification in French/Spanish is highly desirable.
Additional DESE certification in American Sign Language, German, or Mandarin is a plus.
Successful student teaching experience
Three (3) current professional references
Experience integrating technology, including mobile/laptop language lab technology, into lessons.
Familiarity with and interest in administering the National French Contest
Ability to collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary instructional units and common assessments and to work in data teams
Flexible, dependable, and organized
Excellent interpersonal skills
Language/Languages: French or Dual Certification in French/Spanish
