Position Title: 0.8 German Teacher

Location: Canton High School, Canton, MA
Canton High School seeks a highly qualified and experienced German teacher (.8) who has native or near-native fluency and who will lead our nationally known GAPP (German-American Partnership Program) Exchange Program. Near-native speakers should have experience studying, working and/or teaching abroad. Prospective candidates must have not only the knowledge, but also the capacity to design and implement an effective, student-centered German curriculum at the high school level and be able to teach all levels of German. As coordinator of our German-American Partnership Program (GAPP) Exchange (Bocholt-Canton), the teacher will oversee all aspects of the cultural exchange, including the grants, application process, orientation, host family coordination, excursions/trips, and communication with our cooperating school in Bocholt.
We are seeking dynamic professionals who will bring inclusive, differentiated, and purposeful standards-based instruction to the world language classroom. Applicants must be effective communicators who can articulate what they believe to be the essential ingredients of quality world language instruction and be able to deliver purposeful lessons that meet the academic and social-emotional needs of all learners. Successful applicants will be self-starters, able to design and implement instructional units and Integrated Performance Assessments informed by the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines and 2017 NCSSFL-ACTFL Can-Do Statements, 21st Century Skills, Understanding By Design (UbD), and the essential design elements of Project-Based Learning (PBL). Candidates must be comfortable using a variety of technologies, including a networked language laboratory, and must demonstrate interest in integrating new technologies into his/her instructional repertoire. Experience with content-based instruction, universal design for learning, and student exchange programs is a plus.
Candidates who have background in Global Studies may be considered for a 0.9 position.
Qualifications: Current Massachusetts DESE certification in German (5-12)
Additional DESE certification in American Sign Language, French, and/or Spanish, a plus
Successful student teaching experience
Three (3) current professional references
Experience integrating technology, including digital language lab technology, into lessons.
Ability to collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary instructional units
Interest in serving as the German Club Adviser
Flexible, dependable and organized
Excellent interpersonal skills
