The Upward Bound program at Boston University serves 86 Boston Public high school students by providing academic instruction, enrichment activities, tutoring, social enrichment and personal support. Students participate in both a six-week summer residential program and an after school component. More information is available at www.bu.edu/ub.
Description: The instructor is responsible for teaching four sections of a Latin course during a six-week summer program for college-bound high school students. Each section meets for fifty minutes, two days per week on the Boston University campus. The instructor is expected to develop and implement course curriculum, provide written evaluations of student performance, monitor one afternoon of study hall, and attend weekly staff meetings.
The position is part-time. Program dates are June 24, 2018 through August 3, 2018.
Qualifications: Educational Requirements: Minimum Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in education, Latin, or related field with certification and/or teaching experience in appropriate content area.
Required Experience: Minimum two years teaching experience. Applicants must possess an understanding of the needs of disadvantaged youth and creativity to respond to student learning needs with innovative ideas and approaches without compromising course content. Excellent interpersonal skills a must.
