Position Title: Long-Term Substitute Spanish Teacher (Grades 7 & 8)

*This is a 3-month assignment (September through November).*
Galvin Middle School seeks a highly qualified Spanish teacher who has native or near-native fluency in both languages to cover a three-month maternity leave. Near-native speakers should have experience studying, working and/or teaching abroad. Prospective candidates must have not only the knowledge, but also the capacity to design and implement effective, student-centered middle school world language curriculum units. The position consists of teaching five sections of grade 7 & 8 Spanish and working in departmental/grade-specific collaborative teams.
We are seeking dynamic professionals who will bring inclusive, differentiated, and purposeful standards-based instruction to the world language classroom. Applicants must be effective communicators who can articulate what they believe to be the essential ingredients of quality world language instruction and be able to deliver lessons in the target language that meet the academic and social-emotional needs of all learners. Successful applicants will be self-starters, able to design and implement instructional units and Integrated Performance Assessments informed by the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines and 2017 NCSSFL-ACTFL Can-Do Statements, 21st Century Skills, Understanding By Design (UbD), and the essential design elements of Project-Based Learning (PBL). Candidates must be comfortable using a variety of technologies, such as a mobile Chromebook language laboratory and Google Classroom, and must demonstrate interest in integrating new technologies into his/her instructional repertoire. Experience with content-based instruction, TPR/S, CI, universal design for learning is a plus.
Qualifications: Current Massachusetts DESE certification in Spanish (5-12)
Successful student teaching experience
Three (3) current professional references
Experience integrating technology, including mobile/laptop language lab technology, into lessons.
Ability to collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary instructional units and common assessments and to work in data teams
Flexible, dependable and organized
Excellent interpersonal skills
Passion for teaching the middle school learner
