AI in the World Language Classroom

Join us for a webinar that will offer World Language educators a guide to integrating Artificial Intelligence into teaching practices. The session will begin with essential background information on AI and tools like ChatGPT. The webinar will then highlight practical, innovative ways AI can be used in World Language teaching, featuring a range of immediate-use AI tools for the classroom. It will showcase how AI can enhance language learning experiences for students while significantly reducing teachers' workload. The session will conclude with strategies for implementing AI-driven approaches as well as look to the transformative power this technology will have on the profession. 

 

Kevin Gaugler

Dr. Kevin Gaugler is a Professor of Spanish and Assistant Dean of the School of Liberal Arts at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY. With nearly two decades of research in instructional technology and language acquisition, his work has appeared in major publications and media outlets including the chapter on technology in the fifth edition of the Teacher’s Handbook: Contextualized Language Instruction . Dr. Gaugler, honored with the 2010 ACTFL Award for Excellence in Teaching with Technology, advocates for technology that promotes learner autonomy and community-based learning.

 

Dan Edwards

Dan Edwards is a Spanish Teacher at Pine Bush High School in Pine Bush, NY and an Adjunct Instructor of Spanish at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY. With an Ed.D in Literacy, Culture, and Language Education from Indiana University, his research interests include the motivation of L2 students in the classroom environment and the role of AI in education and language acquisition. Dan was a 2019 NYSAFLT Leader of Tomorrow and is the current president of ALOUD.
