Facilitators: Mia Correia & Adriana Thomas
April 29, 2023    9:30 - 10:45 AM

How do we connect our lived experiences as a heritage, immigrant or third culture adults with our students' own cultural journey?  How do we foster an inclusive and culturally responsive classroom environment with students who may or may not have gone through similar experiences of navigating multiple cultures? In this session, we will share our experiences and we will discuss how this  shapes and impacts our approach to teaching languages. We hope you will leave feeling inspired to connect with your students and support them on their own unique journeys.

MAFLA MEETS #4

What the Tech is This?
Facilitator: Carlos Luis Brown
February 18, 2023    9:30 - 10:45 AM

The goal of our time together will be to better understand what opportunities exist for educators by engaging with social media. Let's spend some time reflecting on our needs, values, and skills and how those match up (or don't) with social media use. We want to try to find out to what extent time invested in social media could pay dividends in the future. Is it worth it? We will learn about some of the different social media platforms, reflect on our own roles in social media as either creators or consumers, talk about concerns, apathy towards, and successes with social media, and get a sense of what value social media has as an instructional tool. We might even post what we learn about it... #MaFLA23

If you plan to attend, bring a friend or a colleague who you believe would benefit from our meetup.

Happy New Year, and welcome to MAFLA Meets #3! We’re half-way through the school year! As you reflect on the last semester, are there lessons that just didn’t hit the way they used to? Are there routines that just aren’t working? We’ve hit that mid-year point, so let’s gather to share ways to refresh our daily classroom routines. Chat with other language educators and share strategies that work and routines to re-energize your classes.
The MAFLA Team is pleased to continue its newest endeavor, MAFLA Meets! These meetings are social in nature so that members can learn informally from each other and share ideas. These Saturday morning meetings aim to keep us in touch with each other and socialize about our work in world languages. Let’s learn from the experts - you!
Join us on Zoom to share strategies and refresh our language learning routines. Invite a friend or colleague to join our community.

If you plan to attend, bring a friend or a colleague who you believe would benefit from our meetup.

The MaFLA Team is very pleased to continue its newest endeavor called MaFLA Meets!  These meetings are intended to be social in nature so that members can learn informally from each other and share ideas.  These Saturday morning meetings aim to keep us in touch with each other and socialize about our work in world languages.

iAre you a new(er) world language educator? Do you often feel overwhelmed by your teaching responsibilities in a post-COVID era? Are you looking to make connections? Do you feel that building a support system with other world language educators would be helpful to you?

Are you a seasoned or veteran world language educator who wants to share strategies & expertise on how you have responded to teaching challenges and demands? Do you know &/or work with a new(er) world language educator who could benefit from some support & connection?

If you answered “yes!” to any of these questions, join us at our next MaFLA Meets meetup! The meetup will bring new(er) and seasoned/veteran educators together to create a collaborative, safe space where everyone can share ideas, strategies, and advice on how to cope with the demands that many of us are facing every day in our classrooms. Come ready to discuss your struggles and triumphs!

If you plan to attend, bring a friend or a colleague who you believe would benefit from our meetup.
