Proficiency Academy is back in person for 2022! Come join us to learn about teaching for proficiency and advance your skills in proficiency-based instruction. Our 4-day academy is an immersive and collaborative learning experience. We offer two strands to meet your needs: 1) Foundations of Proficiency, led by Greg Duncan, and 2) Principles of Proficiency: Proficiency for ALL Learners, led by Leslie Grahn. Each strand includes high-quality workshops and facilitated break-out sessions where you can collaborate with colleagues to develop your own proficiency-based material to bring back to your district. Join us!

Strand 1: Foundations of Proficiency
Greg Duncan

Back by popular demand, Greg Duncan--an internationally recognized expert in World Language education--will lead the Foundations strand. In the Foundations strand, Greg will guide you through the ACTFL Proficiency levels, show you how to set proficiency targets for your program or course, help you design engaging and authentic performance assessments and rubrics, connect proficiency to course units and lessons using the NCSSFL-ACTFL Can-Do Statements, and prepare you to be an empowered educator with the support of the Teacher Effectiveness for Language Learning (TELL) Project. In addition to Greg’s high-quality workshops, you will join a smaller break-out group during the Academy led by facilitators experienced in teaching for proficiency. Hands-on and interactive, you will leave the Academy invigorated and with concrete materials to use when you return to school. If you have not attended Proficiency Academy before (regardless of your background experience as a teacher), be sure to sign up for this strand. Come join the Proficiency movement!

Strand 2: Principles of Proficiency: Proficiency for ALL Learners
Leslie Grahn

All learners can experience success in a proficiency-based classroom! Join national world language expert and author, Leslie Grahn, as she leads you through creating safe and supportive learning environments that boost student confidence and achievement. Leslie will show you how to use formative assessments, student self-reflection, and assessment data to inform teaching and learning. Differentiated instruction is essential in a proficiency-based classroom, and Leslie will provide specific strategies that will transform your classroom. In addition to Leslie’s high-quality workshops, you will join a smaller break-out group during the Academy led by facilitators experienced in teaching for proficiency. Hands-on and interactive, you will leave the Academy invigorated and with concrete materials to use when you return to school. For those returning to the Proficiency Academy, be sure to sign up for this strand. Come expand and strengthen your skills in proficiency-based instruction.

Due to the advanced nature of this strand, only returning attendees will be allowed to register. Anyone who has not previously attended Proficiency Academy should register for the Foundations strand.
