Teachers at Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter Public School (PVPA) provide students in grades 7-12 with a supportive and challenging environment that is responsive to multiple learning styles, emphasizes learning through the arts, and integrates critical and creative thinking throughout the curriculum. Since 1996, PVPA has prepared students for higher education by employing a rigorous, standards-based curriculum in a nurturing and collaborative environment.
PVPA has an opportunity for a dynamic Spanish teacher beginning in August for the 2021-2022 school year. We are looking for a reflective practitioner who enjoys working with students in grades 9-12 and collaborating with colleagues. The Spanish curriculum is arts-integrated. Our goal is to offer a core sequence of study that will help students develop confidence in using the language while laying the groundwork for fluency. We use an integrated curriculum that challenges students to blend creative and critical thinking into their work and provides options for project-based learning. At PVPA, all students have the opportunity to study at least one language in addition to English by the time they graduate from high school.
We believe that:
1.Students should be able to speak, read, write, and understand the world language they study.
2.Language acquisition is a lifelong process.
3.Effective world language programs integrate the study of language with the study of culture, including daily life, history, literature, visual arts, mathematics, and science. In this way, world language programs create natural links to all other disciplines.
4.Assessment of student learning is an integral component of effective world language instruction.

3.Assess student work and provide timely feedback to students and parents via PowerSchool online grading system
4.Apply PVPA’s standards-based grading system to report on student course progress and achievement
5.Coordinate with special educators to address the diverse needs of all learners.
6.Supervise students during non-class time (e.g., lunch) as required
7.Attend and participate in regular faculty meetings and school-wide professional development activities
8.Attend and participate in meetings with students and/or parents/guardians as scheduled, including an evening open house, and parent-teacher conferences
9.Participate in school-wide events that occur during the school day
10.Assist with other faculty administrative duties as required
Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications:

4.Must be able to pass MTEL within first year of employment
1.Two or more years of experience teaching Spanish in a public or private school, preferably at 9-12.
2.Eligible for “Highly Qualified” teacher status
4.Interest or experience in the arts
5.Knowledge of discipline curriculum standards
6.Massachusetts teaching license in subject area

Calendar: School year (ten months)
