The World Languages Department at Canton High School (Canton, MA) is seeking a Massachusetts-certified or certifiable American Sign Language teacher who has native or near-native fluency for the 2021-2022 school year. Prospective candidates must have not only the knowledge, but also the capacity to design and implement an effective, student-centered ASL 1 & ASL 2 program at the high school level. Since our world language programs emphasize both linguistic and cultural proficiency, the ideal candidate will have an intimate understanding of American Sign Language and Deaf culture.
We are seeking a dynamic professional who will bring inclusive, differentiated, and purposeful standards-based instruction to the world language classroom. Applicants must be effective communicators who can articulate what they believe to be the essential ingredients of quality instruction and who can deliver lessons with clear learning targets that meet the academic and social-emotional needs of all learners. Prospective candidates should have the capacity to envision how they will continually grow and collaborate with the other world language teachers and the members of our school community. Successful applicants will be self-starters, able to design and implement instruction and performance assessments informed by the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines, 2017 NCSSFL-ACTFL Can-Do Statements, 21st Century Learning, Understanding by Design (UbD), and the essential design elements of Project-Based Learning (PBL). A strong understanding of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and differentiation are essential. Candidates must be comfortable using a variety of technologies, including Google Classroom and a digital language laboratory with ASL capabilities, and must demonstrate interest in integrating a range of technologies into their instructional repertoire.
Qualifications: Current Massachusetts DESE world language certification-American Sign Language (5-12)
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Studies and/or ASL from an accredited institution
Successful student teaching experience, three current references, and three professional letters of recommendation
Experience integrating technology into lessons
